Nordic Walking Poles and Activator Urban Poles

Nordic walking poles provide accessible, fun and physical recreational activity for those with balance and mobility issues. Nordic walking has been proven to be beneficial to a wide range of neurological conditions including Parkinson Disease, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury and stroke. People with imbalance, decreased confidence walking outside and upper or lower body weakness will also find benefit. Weight bearing activity, core muscles strengthening and attention to posture are common fall prevention strategies. Recent research shows that Nordic walking targets all three of these areas.

Not only will a regular program of pole walking strengthen the core muscles, arms and legs, but it provides extra stability encouraging people to walk confidently with proper gait. Walking with poles also encourages a strong, upright posture.

Some of the benefits of Nordic Walking include:

  • Total body workout - incorporating arms, legs and trunk
  • Creates less impact on hip, knee and foot joints by 25%
  • Increased balance and safety - with four points of contact
  • Lower perceived exertion - you work harder without knowing it!
  • Burn up to 67% more calories than walking without poles
  • Increased coordination - use of right and left hemispheres of the brain
  • Assists with upright posture
